Humiliation Rituals

[Scene: A dimly lit bunker. The sound of dripping water echoes through the halls. Solid Snake is leaning against the wall, arms crossed, while Arnold Schwarzenegger paces back and forth with a cigar in hand. A faint oinking comes from the corner, where Schnelly the pig lies on a blanket.]

Solid Snake:
(gravely) Arnoldโ€ฆ Iโ€™ve been watching how you treat that pig of yours. The fat jokes. The humiliation. It doesnโ€™t work. Fat shaming doesnโ€™t make anyone stronger. It just breaks them down.

Arnold Schwarzenegger:
(throws his hands up) But Snake, look at Schnelly! She is so fat! Like a balloon with legs. I am trying to motivate her. No pain, no gain!

Solid Snake:
(shakes head) Thatโ€™s not how it works. You canโ€™t punish an animalโ€”or a personโ€”into being better. Fear and humiliation just eat away at them from the inside. Iโ€™ve seen it in soldiers. And Iโ€™ve seen it on bigger stages.

Arnold Schwarzenegger:
(brows furrow) Bigger stages? What do you mean?

Solid Snake:
Nelly Furtado. I saw her at the Junos once. Suspended by wires. Hung up like a bird for everyone to laugh at. It wasnโ€™t artโ€”it was a ritual of humiliation. She was almost crying. The audience clapped, but they didnโ€™t see the pain. Just like you donโ€™t see Schnellyโ€™s.

Arnold Schwarzenegger:
(pauses, looking down at Schnelly, who oinks softly) โ€ฆYou think I am humiliating her?

Solid Snake:
(steps forward, voice low) I know you are. And if you keep it up, sheโ€™ll carry that shame forever. Youโ€™re supposed to protect her, Arnold. Not break her.

Arnold Schwarzenegger:
(sighs, rubbing his temples) โ€ฆMaybe youโ€™re right, Snake. I remember when I was a boy in Austria, the other kids called me names too. Skinny. Weak. Like a pencil-neck. It made me angryโ€ฆ but it also made me hungry to prove them wrong. I thought that was the only way.

Solid Snake:
You fought back because you had fire inside you. But not everyone works that way. Most just get crushed. Schnellyโ€™s not weak, Arnold. She just needs someone to believe in her.

Arnold Schwarzenegger:
(softly, kneeling down to pet Schnelly) โ€ฆOkay, Schnelly. No more fat jokes. From now on, we train together. You and me. Pumping iron. Eating clean. We will show them all.

Solid Snake:
(smiles faintly) Thatโ€™s more like it. Rememberโ€”real strength isnโ€™t built on shame. Itโ€™s built on respect.

[Schnelly snorts happily, nuzzling Arnoldโ€™s hand. The bunker grows quiet, only the sound of her satisfied breathing filling the air.]

Mush Into Muscles

Setting: A bustling outdoor gym in Venice Beach. The clang of weights and the grunt of effort fill the air. JOE, looking exhausted and with a noticeable paunch, is sitting on a bench, scrolling on his phone. NELLY is beside him, looking concerned. ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, wearing sunglasses and a tight athletic shirt, is moving between stations, offering encouragement. He spots Joe and Nelly and walks over.

Arnold: (Booming, cheerful voice) Look at this! New recruits! I love it. Ready to turn that mush into muscle?

Joe: (Looks up, startled and weary) Oh, uh, hi Mr. Schwarzenegger. Not really a recruit. Justโ€ฆ sitting. Iโ€™m exhausted. Justโ€ฆ chronically fatigued. All the time.

Nelly: He really is. The doctor says it might be his thyroid, but the tests are inconclusive. Heโ€™s on a new medication to try and help with his energy levels and mood.

Arnold: (Nods, but his smile doesn’t fade) Medication, shmedication. It is a tool, not a master. But listen to me. You cannot medicate yourself into a strong body. And a strong body feeds a strong mind. Look at that. (He points a thick finger at Joe’s stomach.) That disgusting pot belly is not helping. It is an anchor pulling you down into the couch, telling you to sleep.

Joe: (Defensive, slumping his shoulders) Whoa, thatโ€™s a little harsh. Itโ€™s not that simple. I just have no energy to do anything about it. Itโ€™s a medical condition.

Arnold: And sitting there whining about it is the prescription? No! The energy comes from the action, not before it! You think I woke up every morning at 5 AM feeling like a champion? No! I woke up feeling tired, feeling sore. But I moved. I acted. The motivation followed the action.

Nelly: But where is he even supposed to start? He canโ€™t just bench press 300 pounds.

Arnold: (A wide grin breaks across his face) Finally, a smart question! You start small. You start so small you cannot fail. You cannot tell me you are too tired for this. Joe, get on the ground.

Joe: What? Right here? The grass is dirty.

Arnold: The dirt will make you stronger! Now! On your knees!

(Slightly bewildered, Joe slowly gets off the bench and onto his knees on the grass.)

Arnold: Good! Now, hands on the ground. Wider. Yes. This is not a push-up. This is a knee push-up. Your first rep for a new life. Nobody is going to save you but yourself, Joe. Not a pill, not a doctor. You! Now push! Yes! All the way down! Feel that? That is your chest waking up! That is your willpower screaming โ€˜I am still here!โ€™

(Joe grunts, struggling mightily to push himself back up. Arnold places a hand gently on his back, not helping, just guiding.)

Arnold: One! See? You are not fatigued. You are deconditioned. There is a difference. One you fix with action. Tomorrow, you will do two. Then three. In a month, you will do ten real push-ups. And that pot belly? It will be running scared.

(Joe collapses onto the grass, breathing heavily, but a faint, surprised smile is on his face.)

Joe: (Panting) Iโ€ฆ I actually feel a littleโ€ฆ awake.

Arnold: (Claps his hands together) Of course you do! You told your body you are the boss! The medication might handle the chemistry, but you, Joe, you must handle the machinery. Now, rest. Then ten more. Remember: stop whining, start doing

The Passing of the Torch

Arnold Schwarzenegger Passes the Last Action Hero Torch to Jelly at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics

The 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics were in full swing, a spectacle of ice, fire, and international unity. But behind the scenes, a different kind of torch was being passedโ€”not the Olympic flame, but the torch of action cinema itself.

Arnold Schwarzenegger stood in a VIP lounge overlooking the Olympic cauldron, dressed in a crisp black suit, a cigar in hand. He had seen many legends rise and fall in Hollywood, but now, he was looking for something different. The future of action films needed fresh faces, a new breed of hero. And he had his eye on two unlikely candidates: Joe Jukic and Nelly Furtadoโ€”better known as Jelly.

As they entered the lounge, Arnold turned to greet them with his signature smirk.

“Ah, there they areโ€”Canadaโ€™s finest,โ€ he said, extending a hand. โ€œWelcome, Jelly.โ€

Joe grinned as he shook Arnoldโ€™s hand. โ€œWe heard you were looking for the next Last Action Heroes.โ€

Nelly raised an eyebrow. โ€œOr is this about Terminator?โ€

Arnold chuckled. โ€œA little of both. You see, I am always thinking ahead. A franchise like Terminator needs a new John Connorโ€ฆ a new Katherine Brewster. And not just actorsโ€”we need warriors, people who understand the real fight ahead.โ€

Joe leaned in, intrigued. โ€œYou mean AI?โ€

Arnold nodded, his expression turning serious. โ€œThe machines are getting smarter, Joe. I donโ€™t have to tell you that. But this is not just about making another movieโ€”itโ€™s about sending a message. People need heroes who fight for something real. And you and Nelly? You have that fire. You donโ€™t just actโ€”you believe.โ€

Nelly smirked. โ€œSo, youโ€™re saying weโ€™re the resistance?โ€

Arnold took a puff of his cigar and exhaled. โ€œI am saying I see something in you both. Something I saw in the young Linda Hamilton, in the young Edward Furlongโ€ฆ but also something new. You understand the peopleโ€”not just the Hollywood machine.โ€

Joe crossed his arms. โ€œBut why now? Why us?โ€

Arnoldโ€™s smirk returned. โ€œBecause timing is everything. You think I named my pet pig Schnelly for no reason?โ€

Nelly burst out laughing. โ€œWaitโ€”your pet pig is named Schnelly?โ€

Arnold nodded proudly. โ€œYes! Schnelly, as in Schwarzenegger + Jelly. A sign of destiny. When I was Governor of California, I knew I needed to find the next generation before it was too late. So, I trained Schnellyโ€”and now, I train you.โ€

Joe shook his head, laughing. โ€œI canโ€™t believe weโ€™re being recruited by the Terminator himselfโ€ฆ because of a pig.โ€

Arnold patted Joeโ€™s shoulder. โ€œDestiny comes in many forms, my friend. And if you accept, the future of action cinemaโ€”and maybe even the resistanceโ€”will rest in your hands.โ€

Nelly and Joe exchanged glances. This was no ordinary Hollywood pitch.

โ€œYou in?โ€ Arnold asked.

Jelly grinned.

โ€œHasta la vista, baby,โ€ Joe said.

โ€œWeโ€™re in,โ€ Nelly added.

And just like that, the torch was passed.
