Forgotten Worlds: Atlantis

In the depths of the ocean blue, Lies a city lost, Atlantis true. With towers of gold and streets of stone, A place of wonder, now overgrown. Legend tells of a civilization grand, Ruled by a king with a mighty hand. But envy and greed led to its demise, Swept away by the ocean’s cries. Treasures untold lie buried deep, Secrets of the past they do keep. Atlantis, a mystery of the sea, A reminder of what once used to be. So let us ponder this ancient land, And the lessons it has to command. For in the ruins of Atlantis’ throne, We may find wisdom to call our own.

The Azores Atlantis is a theory that suggests the Azores islands, located in the North Atlantic Ocean, could be the remnants of the lost city of Atlantis. Proponents of this theory believe that the Azores islands have geological features that match descriptions of Atlantis in ancient texts, such as Plato’s dialogues. However, there is no concrete evidence to support this theory, and most historians and archaeologists believe that Atlantis is a mythical city that never actually existed.

The Cult of the Holy Spirit

The Cult of the Holy Spirit (PortugueseCulto do Divino Espรญrito Santo), also known as the Cult of the Empire of the Holy Spirit (Culto do Impรฉrio do Divino Espรญrito Santo), is a religious sub-culture, inspired by Christian millenarian mystics, associated with Azorean Catholic identity, consisting of iconography, architecture, and religious practices that have continued in many communities of the archipelago as well as the broader Portuguese diaspora. Beyond the Azores, the Cult of the Holy Spirit is alive in parts of Brazil (where it was established three centuries ago) and pockets of Portuguese settlers in North America. The Cult of the Holy Spirit involves traditional rituals and religious celebrations of these faith communities.

In its original sense, “cult” referred to an accepted religious practice, in sharp contrast to the term’s modern, negative connotation.ย Devotionย to theย Holy Spiritย is part of classicalย Catholic dogmaย and is the inspiration of several Catholicย religious institutes,[1]ย including theย Spiritans, but what is considered here has peculiar characteristics of its own.
