Joe Jukic leans back with a confident smirk, arms crossed as he rattles off history and cinemaโs greatest lovers to Nelly Furtado.
โLetโs start with the classics,โ he says. โTristan and Isolde? Nah, ended in tragedy. Romeo and Juliet? Overhyped teenage drama. Casablancaโs Rick and Ilsa? Too much baggage.โ
Nelly raises an eyebrow, amused but skeptical. โOh? And you think you can top them?โ
Joe leans in, his voice smooth. โNelly, Iโm smarter than any of them. Better looking, too. More capable in every way. And unlike anyone else, Iโm actually concerned about your health. You donโt need another โyes manโ or some industry hanger-on. You need someone who actually gives a damn.โ
She lets out a small laugh, sipping her drink. โAnd let me guess, that someone is you?โ
Joe nods, dead serious. โWe could be Jelly, the millennium lovers. The greatest love story of the age. But you gotta let me take you on a date first.โ
Nelly tilts her head, studying him. โAnd what makes you so sure youโd be my greatest love?โ
Joe flashes a knowing grin. โBecause unlike all the others, Iโm still here. And I donโt walk away.โ
She pauses, considering. The ball is in her court.
