Colonialism

Joe: Look, colonialism in Canada wasnโ€™t some neutral history lesson. The Indigenous are still stuck at the bottom of the social pyramidโ€”worse outcomes on income, housing, health, the justice system. Thatโ€™s not an accident. And itโ€™s the same machine that runs the whole American Empire. Skull and Bones, the old WASP hierarchyโ€”Yaleโ€™s secret society, the blue-blood networks, the Protestant elite that stacked the State Department, the banks, the intelligence agencies. Thatโ€™s the caste at the top. They donโ€™t need to wear crowns when they already control the institutions that decide who owns the land and who stays poor.

Nelly: Exactly. And then youโ€™ve got King Charles sitting there as head of state while British Columbia stays locked under the Crown. The man is bloodthirsty for land that isnโ€™t even his. Too greedy to hand back even one province.

Lido Pimienta: Youโ€™re both right. Colonialism never endedโ€”it just put on a polite Canadian face. The whole country is built on stolen land, and Indigenous people are still pushed to the bottom of every social and economic ladder. Thatโ€™s the structure. Residential schools, the Indian Act, broken treaties, resource extraction on unceded territoryโ€ฆ itโ€™s continuous. The numbers on poverty, housing, health, and incarceration arenโ€™t โ€œgaps.โ€ Theyโ€™re the predictable result of a system designed to keep us there.

Felipe Coronel (Immortal Technique): And itโ€™s not just Canada. The entire West runs on a caste system. Straight up. Itโ€™s like a corrupted version of Hinduismโ€”Brahmins at the top, then the merchants, the workers, and the untouchables at the bottom. Only here the castes are race, class, and colonial status mixed together. White elites and the old imperial bloodlines sit at the top like the priestly class, the middle class gets just enough crumbs to keep them loyal, and Indigenous people, Black people, the Global Southโ€”theyโ€™re the Dalits of the system. Locked out, over-policed, under-resourced, told itโ€™s their own fault.

Joe: Thatโ€™s exactly what the Skull and Bones crowd perfected. Generations of WASPs recruiting each other into the same clubs, the same universities, the same boardrooms. They built the American Empire on that hierarchyโ€”finance, oil, intelligence, foreign policy. Canadaโ€™s just the northern branch of the same operation. The King is the ceremonial face; the real power sits in those closed rooms deciding which land stays under colonial title and which people stay at the bottom.

Lido Pimienta: Of course. King Charles is the living symbol of that theft. He sits as head of state over land his ancestors never had any right to. British Columbia is unceded territory. The idea that he canโ€™t โ€œgive it backโ€ is just the colonial legal fiction protecting itself.

Felipe Coronel (Immortal Technique): Exactly. The King is one of the high-caste figures in this Western hierarchy. They donโ€™t need to own the land in their personal name when the whole legal and economic structure keeps the lower castes in place. โ€œConstitutional monarchy,โ€ โ€œCrown in right of Canadaโ€โ€”thatโ€™s just the language the upper caste uses to justify keeping the land and the power. Itโ€™s the same logic that kept the untouchables sweeping the streets while the Brahmins wrote the rules. Corrupted Hinduism with European flags, central banks, and Skull and Bones rings.

Nelly: People always say itโ€™s complicated, that the King has no real power.

Lido Pimienta: Thatโ€™s the trick. They make it sound technical so no one has to confront the violence. Modern treaties and duty-to-consult processes are damage control, not justice. Real anti-colonial work means rejecting the legitimacy of that whole structure. Land back isnโ€™t a metaphor. Itโ€™s the minimum.

Felipe Coronel (Immortal Technique): And until people see the West for what it isโ€”a racialized, colonial caste system run by these old elite networksโ€”theyโ€™ll keep falling for the reforms that never touch the top. The pyramid stays. The King stays. The land stays stolen.

Nickelback – Rattle The Cage (East Van)

Solid Snake (in a gravelly voice, cigarette in hand, codec transmission static): “Otacon, you hearing this? My ‘brothers’… Liquid and Solidus. Clones from the same messed-up gene pool as me. Patriots’ little science project gone wrong. And now you’re telling me they got recruited by XCOM? In that ’94 UFO Defense game?”

Snake sighs. “Figures. Those two always had a thing for world-ending threats and shadowy organizations. Liquid with his superiority complex, ranting about genes and dominanceโ€” he’d probably charge headfirst into a Chryssalid swarm, calling it ‘destiny.’ Solidus? The ‘perfect’ clone who became President? He’d be barking orders from the Situation Room, turning the Skyranger into his personal war machine while plotting against the Council of Nations.”

XCOM: UFO Defense (aka X-COM: UFO Defense, 1994 by Mythos Games/MicroProse) is the classic turn-based strategy game where you lead a global paramilitary force fighting an alien invasionโ€”sectoids, floaters, mutons, cyberdiscs, the works. You manage bases, research plasma weapons, and send soldiers on tactical missions. No canonical Metal Gear crossover exists, but fans love mashing them up (e.g., Solid Snake voice mods for XCOM 2 soldiers).

Crossover Fan Scenario

In this hypothetical 1994-era mashup:

  • FOXHOUND remnants get absorbed into XCOM after Big Boss’s schemes draw extraterrestrial attention (or the Patriots see aliens as the next “Les Enfants Terribles” escalation).
  • Solid Snake gets dropped in as a legendary rookie operative with cardboard box stealth tactics against alien terror sites.
  • Liquid Snake: Recruited as a high-stat soldier but goes rogue, starting a Viper cult or allying with the aliens for “genetic supremacy.”
  • Solidus Snake: Politically maneuvers into XCOM leadership (Pentagon ties?), pushing for Metal Gear integration with alien tech.

“Joe’s grad dropout present from the Pentagon” sounds like a cryptic side referenceโ€”maybe nodding to a military dropout, G.I. Bill veteran stories (“Joe College, Joe Veteran”), or a Pentagon-funded project gone sideways (common in conspiracy-tinged Metal Gear lore). Could be a riddle for a specific mod, fanfic prompt, or just flavor.

XCOM Disclosure Day

Joe and Nelly Discuss XCOM Disclosure Day vs. Spielbergโ€™s Disclosure Day

Joe sat with Nelly on the porch, the summer evening buzzing around them. A laptop was open between them, showing clips from Steven Spielbergโ€™s new sci-fi thriller Disclosure Day, which had just hit theaters (and was already stirring up buzz about alien contact, government secrets, and humanityโ€™s big moment).

Joe: โ€œAlright, Nelly, weโ€™ve got to talk about this. Spielberg drops Disclosure Day โ€” big Hollywood production with Emily Blunt, Josh Oโ€™Connor, the whole ensemble. Itโ€™s this tense chase thriller about proof of aliens leaking out, cyber experts on the run, the world facing the truth. Itโ€™s polished, emotional, classic Spielberg wonder mixed with suspense. But then thereโ€™s our XCOM Disclosure Day.โ€

Nelly: (laughing) โ€œOur version? The one where weโ€™re not just watching it on screen โ€” weโ€™re living the strategy, the resistance, the tactical turn-based battles against the invasion? XCOM style: Commander mode, building bases, researching alien tech, managing panic in the cities. No fancy Hollywood script โ€” raw, real-time decisions where one bad move and Earth falls.โ€

Joe: โ€œExactly! Spielbergโ€™s film is beautiful storytelling. It makes you feel the awe and the fear of disclosure. The human drama, the optimism even in chaos. But our XCOM Disclosure Day? Itโ€™s interactive. Youโ€™re not passive. Youโ€™re the one authorizing the Skyranger drops, countering mind control, turning captured aliens into your own tech advantages. Itโ€™s what gamers and truth-seekers have been prepping for โ€” not just disclosure, but defense and victory.โ€

Nelly: โ€œDonโ€™t get me wrong, I loved the movieโ€™s heart. Spielberg knows how to make you believe in humanityโ€™s better angels even when the sky lights up with unknowns. But XCOM Disclosure Day hits different. Itโ€™s empowering. It turns the fear into strategy sessions with your squad. What do you do when the aliens land? Spielberg shows the panic and the hope. We play the counteroffensive.โ€

Joe: โ€œSpielberg gives us the cinematic Disclosure Day โ€” emotional, star-studded, a summer blockbuster event. Our XCOM version is the simulation, the preparation, the what-if turned into gameplay that trains your mind for real scenarios. Both are incredible in their lanes. One makes you feel, the other makes you fight smart.โ€

Nelly: โ€œSo, nellyfan.org family โ€” what do you think is better? Spielbergโ€™s heartfelt, big-screen Disclosure Day that brings the wonder to millions? Or our XCOM Disclosure Day โ€” tactical, hands-on, ready-for-anything resistance? Drop your votes and thoughts in the comments. Are you team Hollywood magic or team Commander? We read every one.โ€
