An Officer & A Gentleman

Nelly looks at Joe with a mix of disbelief and affection.

Nelly: “A psyops officer and a gentleman? Joe, you sound like a movie title.”

Joe (half-smiling, half-serious): “Maybe I am. But right here in Canada, I’m nothing — a screwball, a lunatic. They see my file, they laugh. They think it’s all imagination. But if you take me to Croatia, NF, they’ll know. They’ll treat me like a psyops officer… and a gentleman.”

Nelly: “So what, you’re saying your mind doesn’t belong here?”

Joe: “My mind belongs where the ghosts still speak, where they know the cost of silence. Over there, they understand what it means to be cracked open by war and still carry yourself with manners.”

Nelly (softly): “And what about here?”

Joe: “Here, I’m just the lunatic who remembers too much.”

Joe Canuck

Training, huh? Why don't we leave our weapons behind? Make it really educational.
