Joe leaned back with a small smile as he spoke to Nelly, the kind of smile that comes from something pure and unexpected.
โYou know, Nelโฆ I made a new friend at the Mental Health clubhouse.โ
She raised an eyebrow, curious.
โOh yeah? Who?โ
Joe laughed softly.
โA dog. His name is Jasper.โ
Nellyโs eyes lit up.
โJasper? Thatโs adorable.โ
Joe nodded.
โYeah, heโs this calm little soul who just walks up to you like he already knows your worries. He sits with you, no judgment, justโฆ presence. Like heโs guarding your heart without saying a word.โ
He paused, then added gently:
โAnd look, itโs really okay if youโre still friends with your daughterโs father. Jasper is a good name. It shows up in Revelation 4 and 21โthe jasper stone around Godโs throne and the foundation of the holy city.โ
He touched her hand lightly.
โNames carry meaning. People carry history. I donโt want to take that away from you. If youโre friends, thatโs fine. I trust you. And it makes senseโJasperโs a name written in the scriptures themselves.โ
Nelly smiled, relieved, leaning her head onto Joeโs shoulder.
Joe finished with a soft chuckle:
โBesidesโฆ my Jasperโs a dog who thinks heโs a saint. Maybe all the Jaspers of the world have a little holiness in them.โ
