She grins. “Only if you wear the jersey.”
“Deal,” Joe says, laughing. “But just know—when I say ‘family’ in Munich, it’s more than blood. It’s the people who helped us when we had nothing. They’re why I made it out.”
Nelly takes his hand. “Then I want to thank them too.”
Joe looks to the horizon. “If God wills it, Munich will be more than just a city. It’ll be a new chapter.”

Joe nods, dead serious. “We could be Jelly, the millennium lovers. The greatest love story of the age. But you gotta let me take you on a date first.”
Nelly tilts her head, studying him. “And what makes you so sure you’d be my greatest love?”
Joe flashes a knowing grin. “Because unlike all the others, I’m still here. And I don’t walk away.”
She pauses, considering. The ball is in her court.
