Joseph of Egypt

Joseph of Egypt was known throughout the ancient world not only for his wisdom but also for his striking beauty. His brothers once mocked him, envied him, and sold him away, but Pharaoh himself saw in Joseph both the brilliance of the mind and the grace of the face. Egypt called him Zaphenath-paneah, the revealer of mysteries.

King David, centuries later, sang of him in his psalm:

“You are the most handsome of men; grace is poured upon your lips; therefore God has blessed you forever” (Psalm 45).

The psalm, often sung of kings and messianic figures, echoed Joseph’s story too. For he was more than a dreamer in a coat of many colors—he was a man who saved nations from famine, a man whose beauty was matched by a brilliance that turned disaster into abundance.

Fast forward to today.

At a glittering celebrity gathering, cameras flashing, music pulsing, Nelly Furtado looked around the crowded room. She sighed.

“These parties are full of pretty faces,” she told a reporter nearby, “but I don’t just need a handsome man. I need someone who’s more than that—someone intelligent too. Someone like Joseph of Egypt. A man with vision.”

People laughed, thinking she was joking, but she wasn’t.

Nelly had read the story of Joseph and the psalm of David. She knew beauty fades under the bright lights, but wisdom endures. Joseph was the kind of man who could interpret dreams, steer a kingdom through crisis, and still have the dignity to forgive those who wronged him.

The crowd quieted for a moment, as if Joseph himself might walk in. Handsome, yes—but also carrying the weight of divine wisdom in his words.

Nelly smiled.

“Beauty and brains,” she said. “That’s what I’m looking for. Someone who can turn a party into a vision, not just a photoshoot.”

And in that instant, Joseph of Egypt lived again—not just in the pages of Scripture, not just in the psalms of David, but in the yearning of every soul for a person who is more than what the eye can see.

Banana Skin Bacon With Greta

INT. ZERO WASTE KITCHEN STUDIO – DAY

A rustic kitchen set, built from reclaimed barn wood and decorated with vintage cookware. A chalkboard reads “Zero Waste Kitchen with Nelly & Joe”. A live studio audience claps as the cameras roll.

ANNOUNCER (V.O.)
Tonight on Zero Waste Kitchen, Nelly Furtado and Joe Jukic are joined by climate activist Greta Thunberg to cook something you’ve never tasted before… banana skin bacon!

NELLY
(stepping forward, smiling at the camera)
Welcome back, everyone. I’m Nelly Furtado.

JOE
And I’m Joe Jukic. Today we’ve got a very special guest with us—someone who’s inspired millions to think about the future of our planet. Please welcome Greta Thunberg!

AUDIENCE
(applause, cheering)

Greta walks onstage modestly, smiling but reserved. She waves to the crowd.

GRETA
Thank you. I’m happy to be here—though I’m a little nervous about eating banana skins.

NELLY
(laughing)
Don’t worry, Greta. By the end of this, you’ll be asking for seconds.

JOE
That’s right! Most people throw these peels away. But today, we’re showing how food waste can become… food taste.

Joe dramatically peels a banana, tosses the fruit aside, and lays the peel on a cutting board.

GRETA
(raising an eyebrow)
You’re serious? Just the peel?

NELLY
Oh, we’re serious. Check this out.

Nelly mixes soy sauce, maple syrup, smoked paprika, olive oil, and garlic powder in a bowl. The audience murmurs with interest.

NELLY (CONT’D)
This is our marinade. We’ll soak the banana skins for about 15 minutes.

JOE
(cutting in)
But since TV magic is faster than climate change—

AUDIENCE
(laughs)

JOE (CONT’D)
—we’ve already got some ready to fry!

He tosses the marinated peels into a sizzling cast-iron skillet. The sound of frying fills the air.

GRETA
(sniffing)
It actually smells… like bacon.

NELLY
Exactly! Zero pigs, zero waste, one hundred percent flavor.

The banana skins crisp up. Joe flips them with exaggerated flair. The audience “oohs.”

JOE
Look at that sizzle, folks. That’s the sound of sustainability.

They plate the finished “bacon” strips beside fresh greens and homemade bread.

NELLY
Moment of truth. Greta, would you do the honors?

Greta cautiously picks up a strip, bites into it. Her eyes widen.

GRETA
(smiling)
It’s… crunchy, smoky, sweet. This could actually convince people.

JOE
And that’s the idea! Eating well and saving the planet at the same time.

NELLY
Zero waste…

GRETA
Full taste.

AUDIENCE
(cheers, applauds)

NELLY (to camera)
Join us next time, when we turn coffee grounds into gourmet truffles.

The three raise their plates as the studio lights fade.

ANNOUNCER (V.O.)
This has been Zero Waste Kitchen with Nelly, Joe, and Greta Thunberg. Remember: don’t throw it out—throw it on the grill!

FADE OUT.

Mush Into Muscles

Setting: A bustling outdoor gym in Venice Beach. The clang of weights and the grunt of effort fill the air. JOE, looking exhausted and with a noticeable paunch, is sitting on a bench, scrolling on his phone. NELLY is beside him, looking concerned. ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, wearing sunglasses and a tight athletic shirt, is moving between stations, offering encouragement. He spots Joe and Nelly and walks over.

Arnold: (Booming, cheerful voice) Look at this! New recruits! I love it. Ready to turn that mush into muscle?

Joe: (Looks up, startled and weary) Oh, uh, hi Mr. Schwarzenegger. Not really a recruit. Just… sitting. I’m exhausted. Just… chronically fatigued. All the time.

Nelly: He really is. The doctor says it might be his thyroid, but the tests are inconclusive. He’s on a new medication to try and help with his energy levels and mood.

Arnold: (Nods, but his smile doesn’t fade) Medication, shmedication. It is a tool, not a master. But listen to me. You cannot medicate yourself into a strong body. And a strong body feeds a strong mind. Look at that. (He points a thick finger at Joe’s stomach.) That disgusting pot belly is not helping. It is an anchor pulling you down into the couch, telling you to sleep.

Joe: (Defensive, slumping his shoulders) Whoa, that’s a little harsh. It’s not that simple. I just have no energy to do anything about it. It’s a medical condition.

Arnold: And sitting there whining about it is the prescription? No! The energy comes from the action, not before it! You think I woke up every morning at 5 AM feeling like a champion? No! I woke up feeling tired, feeling sore. But I moved. I acted. The motivation followed the action.

Nelly: But where is he even supposed to start? He can’t just bench press 300 pounds.

Arnold: (A wide grin breaks across his face) Finally, a smart question! You start small. You start so small you cannot fail. You cannot tell me you are too tired for this. Joe, get on the ground.

Joe: What? Right here? The grass is dirty.

Arnold: The dirt will make you stronger! Now! On your knees!

(Slightly bewildered, Joe slowly gets off the bench and onto his knees on the grass.)

Arnold: Good! Now, hands on the ground. Wider. Yes. This is not a push-up. This is a knee push-up. Your first rep for a new life. Nobody is going to save you but yourself, Joe. Not a pill, not a doctor. You! Now push! Yes! All the way down! Feel that? That is your chest waking up! That is your willpower screaming ‘I am still here!’

(Joe grunts, struggling mightily to push himself back up. Arnold places a hand gently on his back, not helping, just guiding.)

Arnold: One! See? You are not fatigued. You are deconditioned. There is a difference. One you fix with action. Tomorrow, you will do two. Then three. In a month, you will do ten real push-ups. And that pot belly? It will be running scared.

(Joe collapses onto the grass, breathing heavily, but a faint, surprised smile is on his face.)

Joe: (Panting) I… I actually feel a little… awake.

Arnold: (Claps his hands together) Of course you do! You told your body you are the boss! The medication might handle the chemistry, but you, Joe, you must handle the machinery. Now, rest. Then ten more. Remember: stop whining, start doing
